David Bowles

A product of a Mexican-American family, David Bowles lived most of his life in south Texas, where he teaches at the University of Texas. He has written several books, including They Call Me Güero which is a Pura Belpré Honor Book, an ALSC Notable Children’s Book, a Walter Award Honor Book, winner of the Claudia Lewis Award, Bank Street College of Education, an NCTE Notable Poetry Book and winner of the Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award. His book The Smoking Mirror, was also a Pura Belpré Honor Book.
